How can Walking help You access 90% of Your brain capacity?
Scientists have always stated humans we use only 10% of our brain capacity. But what if the was a way to tap into the rest of 90% of brain capacity?
The human brain is a very fascinating organ; it weighs 3.3 pounds (i.e. 1.5kg) consumes about 20% of total body energy; it has 86 billion neurons (i.e. brain cells). So how come you cannot harness the full capability of this critical human organ?
Neuroscientists state that the brain has two key components: the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.
The conscious mind is the part of the brain which you have full conscious control over. However, your subconscious mind is that part of that brain that you don’t have conscious or direct control over.
Neuroscientists also say your conscious mind makes up about 10% of our brain capacity and the rest of that 90% capacity is what makes the subconscious mind.
During the covid19 pandemic began the quest to find out ways that I could access this massive brain capacity located in the subconscious mind.
Then I found research indicating that walking for 20 minutes per day could help me access the power of my subconscious mind. WOW!
I was over the moon!
After a week of walking 20 minutes every morning; I noticed a change in my mood (i.e., from a negative to a positive mood).
I noticed my brain going into extra gear; during my walks; my brain would generate creative ideas and solutions to my day-to-day problems.
In this image above, we see that children who walked for 20 minutes before taking a test had far more activity in brain regions involved with focused attention and filtering out noisy distractions while they were taking the test compared to non-walkers. This study found that just 20 minutes of walking before a test raised children’s scores (i.e. source=https://helloconfidence.com/2014/09/05/brain-power-enhancing-childrens-learning-through-physical-activity/)
So, this is how I discovered that by walking I increased blood flow to the brain; this helps the brain to get more oxygen, nutrients (i.e., glucose) also helps the brain to focus and think better.
Lastly, another study found that walking helps increase FOCUSED attention and filter out noise distractions, and this focused attention sometimes called “flow state” allows one to access the power of the subconscious mind.
In conclusion, my wish for 2022 is for every human being to achieve personal goals and new year’s resolutions. I hope that through walking 20 minutes per day this healthy routine/habit will help enhance their mental and cognitive health.
